Seven years ago, Durek Verrett was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. His heart stopped beating and he flat-lined. One doctor pronounced him dead, but another refused to give up and tried once more to resuscitate him. It was a success. For months afterwards, however, Durek remained in a medically induced coma.
